Caribbean Livelihoods Programming Training

About this Training

As part of the Livelihoods Regional Roadmap for Latin America and the Caribbean, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) is offering specialized training for Red Cross Societies across the Caribbean. This training focuses on sustainable livelihood strategies and is designed for program managers, field staff, and volunteers.

 

The course uses the IFRC Guidelines for Livelihood Programming and the Livelihoods Resource Centre (LRC) Livelihoods Toolbox. It combines theoretical knowledge with practical exercises to help participants understand and apply what they learn in real-world situations.

Key Topics 

  • What are livelihoods?

  • What impacts do disasters and conflicts have on livelihoods?

  • How can people recover their livelihoods process impacted by disasters and conflicts?

  • What are the five different types of livelihoods assistance provided by IFRC?

  • What is involved in a livelihoods assessment and analysis?

  • How to set good objectives and targets effectively?

  • How does climate change affect livelihoods?

Particpant Criteria

This course is open to all Red Cross Society staff, volunteers and other national stakeholders in Grenada who can implement livelihoods actions in communities across the country.  

Main Criteria

  • Programming Experience: Some or limited experience in livelihoods programming but eager to learn and improve.

  • Interest: A strong interest in livelihoods, environmental issues, and/or climate change, and their connection to disaster risk reduction and management.

  • Commitment: Willingness and availability to implement livelihoods actions after completing the course.

  • Endorsement: Must be endorsed by the President.

  • Attendance: Must be available to attend all 5 days of the training.

Additional Criteria

  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Ability to adjust and adapt to new situations.

  • Communication Skills: Active listener, open to feedback, and able to communicate clearly with team members and beneficiaries.

  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong ability to work well with others and maintain positive relationships.

  • Teamwork: Effective in collaborating within a team.

Course Preparation

Before attending the Livelihoods Programming training you must review and complete the below course material and online courses  and submit your certificates via email to velda.ferguson@ifrc.org. If you have already completed these courses there is no need to redo them, simply email your certificates.
